Favorite Saddle Pads?

I'm not a huge saddle pad whore and I don't have many of them (I have a few that have I've hoarded throughout the years, but I only have two or three pads I use continuously).

With that being said, I'm starting to branch out and look at more fancier pads - ones that have more support and padding as well as more piping and whatnot.

I've found a few pads that I really like, but most of them are in Europe and I'm not keen on the conversion factor or pricing differences...

BR Allure Saddle Pad

Waldhausen Pad
USG pad

So, my question to my fellow bloggers...

What are your favorite pads and why? This can include half pads, dressage pads, a/p pads....

  1. Okay, so my husband says that I have a saddle pad "problem". Whatever that means :D. But I do have quite a few saddle pads- all dressage. My preference is for saddles pads that are cotton and breathe. I'm not a fat of any that build up heat or don't allow air flow. I don't have favourite brands - I prefer to buy by feeling them. I quite love that purple one (purple is Carmen's cover) but it wouldn't look so good on a chestnut.

I lean towards darker colours with piping accents. I don't think that you need padding if your saddle fits - I think it would just be like putting on a thick pair of socks in boots that fit perfect.

    1. For sure - that makes sense.
I don't necessarily want ones that are super pillowy, but have ample padding as well. I have some that are just cotton and they are just so plain.... lol

  4. I actually really love the Ogilvy pads. Half pad, baby pads, any pad. They wash and wear well, and them being customizable is pretty awesome. I have the jumper half pad, eventer profile pad, and two baby pads. The baby pads and profile pads are not super squishy or anything, but that is not what I was looking for in particular. They sit well on the horse and look so nice.

  5. My favourite saddle pad is a shaped black one I found second-hand that says "made in Italy" and that is all....this seems to be a trend with me and shopping second-hand...so many of my favourite things are unmarked!

  6. I actually really like the SmartPak brand pads - their AP Lite pads are the perfect thickness to use under a half pad and hold their shape really well. I love how they are shaped, they don't move at all. And they're starting to come out with more colors, yay!

  7. Ogilvy pads are my favorite too, just because they're so well made and customizable. But there are a few Waldhausen dealers in the US, plus USG is fairly easy to find as well.

    1. With your Ogilvy pads, have you purchased any of the Dressage pad?

  8. My favorite saddle pad is actually a Lettia CoolMax pad that was given to me for my birthday a while ago. Besides the sentimental value, it wicks very well, has nice padding, is suitably "fancy" without being over the top, and has washed and worn very well. I have a couple of the SmartPak ones, but the piping on those always seems to get funky after the third or fourth wash and pulls the pad out of shape.

  10. I love my Ecogold pads. I really need a non-slip because my saddle doesn't fit perfect and likes to slide back. (Bonus? They're Canadian). For when I don't need a non-slip, Ogilvy pads are my go to.
