February Goals 2015

I had no goals for the ponies in January... and to be honest, I think it was for the best. January was a pretty shitty month in general and I am glad to see it gone - don't let the door hitcha on the way out!

If you hadn't heard, my January consisted of Suzie having tummy troubles, and a crappy shoeing that left her lame while Spud won my heart a bit more after being driven in an arena full of full-sized horses and walking into my house [literally].

Why, February?!

So in order to get a bit more done and to hopefully continue an air of motivation, I've compiled some attainable goals for myself with the horses. I am hoping I can cross a few of these off of my list, but I also have my doubts, as February has started with snowfall warnings and a massive dump of snow.

The prettiest, hairest mare in all the land.
February Goals - Suzie
  • Work on Showmanship - includes pivots, setting up and jogging. We did killer in SMS last year and I'd like to start early this year!
  • Ride the Beast Mare - in the very least, once. (Preferably in an indoor.) Doesn't have to be fancy, but I really need to ride my pony.
  • Measure and send out measurements of pony's back to the fitter (to see what Dressage saddles would be the best fit).
  •  Set up a smarter way of feeding the horses - in the mornings they get 4 flakes tossed into the feed bin and have been making a mess lately. My idea is to hang nibble nets and interchange them.
Spud can go mach 10.

February Goals - Spud
  • Lunging with a saddle on - get better walk, trot, canter transitions from him and responsiveness when I give him the cues.
  • Adding some weight while the saddle is on - see how he responds to feeling unbalanced and see how he reacts. I don't foresee any problems, considering he pulls a cart.
  • Learn more about what is required for competitions; what to wear, what is expected, etc. The only show in mind for Spud (for driving) is in August, so we do have plenty of time but it is good information to start learning.

  1. ugh that snow does not look fun!!! good luck tho - hopefully it melts away quickly and you can have lots of fun with the ponehs :)

  2. Omg Spud is adorable. Awesome goals!
